Reece

The youngest of seven, I was born in the Bay of Islands New Zealand where I spent my early years. Before I was 10, my family relocated to Hamilton where I completed my schooling and first year of University.
Having decided to be an Engineer I moved to Auckland to study Engineering (Electrical & Electronic) at the University of Auckland. I obtained my Bachelor of Engineering (BE) and followed that up with a Master of Engineering (ME) a few years later.
I practiced as a Consulting Engineer for a number of years before deciding Software Engineering was a better match for my skills. Today I am a Software Architect.

As you can see from the number of items below, I have way too many hobbies! It is difficult to focus on more than one of these at a time. It is always nice when I work on a project where they overlap.
Film

To me, creating digital films was the natural extension to still digital photography. It also complemented my interest in visual FX.
Photography

After completing foundational drawing and digital painting courses I could see how photography is used to create art. I purchased my first dSLR camera, a Canon 550D/T2i, and started exploring.
3D Art & Animation

I have been interested in the technology and art of 3D modelling for as long as I have been using computers (too long).
2D Art

My work created while trying to learn the skills required to be an artist.
This starts with my first pencil drawings and later digital painting pieces.
Visual FX

I have been using Blender 3D since 2005 and have increasingly become interested in visual effects. Some of the skills needed in this area include green screen and match-move work which I write about here.
Electronics

Designing and building electronics has been my obsession since childhood. I have constructed countless electronics kits in the earlier years to now where I design most of what I build. My current focus is network connected microprocessor based systems.
Flying

I gained my Private Pilots License in 1997. Although I am not “current” I can still fly with a pilot who is. When traveling, going to the local airfield and taking a Cessna for a senic is a great way to discover a new place.
